The standard defines the functions provided by programming interfaces for efficient communication between electric units considering the characteristics of software platforms and network interconnections of complex embedded systems. The communication programming interfaces considered in this standard are classified into four categories: i) synchronous communication, ii) asynchronous communication, iii) remote handler call, and iv) remote memory access. This standard defines the functions provided by the synchronous communication interfaces as mandatory features while functions for the others as optional ones.
